On-Site Painting
Course Number: ART 3513C
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces beginning and advanced students to the formal
and technical issues of on-site painting. Students will learn to accurately
and creatively render from life. The class will address the challenges and
benefits posed from working on-site. Taking advantage of the city of Florence
and its environs students will work primarily on location in museums, gardens
and other historic locations of interest to the instructor and students.
For practical reasons students will be encouraged to use only water based
colors though more advanced students may choose to further develop work
done on location in other medium outside of class time.
Materials necessary for this course are:
• Acrylic paint set: Sap green, Phtalo green, Burnt umber, Burnt siena,
Ultramarine blue, Primary blue, Dark cadmium red, Cadmium yellow deep,
white titanium, Mars black.
• Matte gel medium
• Retarder
• Supports: 4 prepared cotton canvas mounted on stretcher bars in different
sizes (30x40; 35x40)
• Paper tissues or cotton rags
• Sponge for cleaning
• Plastic palette
• Palette knife
• Brushes pure bristle #10 flat and round
#6 flat and round
• Brushes ox hair # 4 filbert
#2 filbert
• 2 jars with lids for water
• 1 bottle of water to clean brushes
IMPORTANT NOTE: The cost will change accordingly to the amount of material each
student will choose to approach projects.
