COMMUNITY SERVICE
Here at SRISA we believe in the importance of community
service. Over the years students at SRISA have
participated in numerous community service projects
including two on-going projects in conjunction with
UNICEF in Florence.
Pigotta
Doll Project:
Every winterUNICEF
organizes a competition and people from all over Italy
participate by hand sewing “pigotte” dolls that are
sold in December to raise money to immunize children
all over the world. Each During the Fall
semesters students are asked given the
opportunity to take part in the workshop and make
dolls for UNICEF. Each doll is sold for 20 Euros and
SRISA students have raised over 1,200 Euro for UNICEF
by participating in the project.
UNICEF
Greeting Cards Project:
Throughout the year SRISA coordinates a project that to
hand make to create hand-made Seasons Greetings
cards. These linotypes and wood cuts made by students
are then printed on to cards that have been letter
pressed printed on the SRISA letter press.
Students from SRISA help man the booth with UNICEF to
collect money and sell both the Pigotte dolls and the
SRISA cards for UNICEF. All proceeds from the
greetings’ cards go to UNICEF.
Park
Clean-up:
In conjunction with the city of Florence, SRISA
students have teamed together to clean-up two of the
city’s parks, Piazza Indipendenza and Piazza D’Azeglio.
These experiences were a great opportunity to come
together as a team and make an effort to give something
back to the city that hosts us.
